Concessions is our club's primary fundraising activity, and it is where we have the greatest need for volunteer support. Our club is responsible for the home-side concession at all football events including middle school, junior-varsity, and varsity games. We also provide concessions for soccer games.
As a concession volunteer you'll play a vital role in delivering excellent service to event-goers while directly supporting our band programs. Your responsibilities may include:
Preparing and serving snacks, drinks, and other concession items to attendees.
Managing transactions with accuracy, using the square terminal and cash box.
Keeping the concession area organized and clean.
Offering friendly efficient service to ensure a positive experience for all patrons.
Because we are serving food to the public all concession volunteers must obtain a food handlers permit before working in the concession. Our club will host a food handlers certification training in the summer, but you can also obtain the permit online. Go online to: https://www.foodhandlersoftexas.com for a listing of all online courses available or obtain a permit here: Food Safety Training & Certification | Food Handlers of Texas
All adults who are not employed by the school district are required to get a background check before volunteering in the concession. The background check form can be obtained from the school office or can be downloaded and printed using this link: Background Check. Completed forms must be submitted to the school office. Student volunteers are welcome to work in the concession without a background check.
Please wear closed-toe shoes and make sure long hair is tied back when working in the concession. You may choose to wear a baseball cap or a hair net to keep your hair contained. Hair nets and gloves are available in the concession. Lastly, leave your rings and watches at home as they can harbor bacteria, trap food particles, and potentially pose a safety risk for the wearer.
Forgot to sign-up? No problem! Sign-ups are nice but not required. Need to arrive late? It's ok. If you want to come, we absolutely want you there. Not sure what to do? We will show you everything when you arrive. Obtain a concession badge at the ticket booth and come on in. See you at the concession!
Our band kids need to eat! Before most games and some UIL performances, we rely on a couple of volunteers to help the band directors coordinate meals. This may involve picking up and delivering meals and food items from local businesses, distributing food to band members, and, on occasion, cooking and/or prepping the food ourselves. Adult volunteers who deliver food to students must have a completed background check as described in the requirements for concession volunteers.
The spaghetti dinner is an annual fundraising event. Students sell plates and volunteers prepare and serve the meals to supporters. In addition to meal prep, volunteers may assist with setup and clean-up for the event.
Volunteers may also assist with the silent auction that has traditionally occurred throughout the night as the bands perform. Volunteers may help in advance by seeking out auction items from donors and setting up the auction tables. After the event, volunteers may help with contacting winners and ensuring the items are received by the highest bidders.
